The book of Esther holds one of my favorite stories from scripture. In it, there is love and hate, commitment and betrayal, and life and death. All of this is tied into the story of one girl named Esther. I would encourage you to go and read it. Forgive me as I recollect some of the highlights because if you are not familiar with the book then I believe a spoiler alert is necessary.
After a nationwide contest, Esther had become queen to King Ahasuerus from India to Ethiopia over 127 provinces. Haman, who was the equivalent of a vice-president, had convinced the king to put genocide into law and eliminate all of the Jews. Esther’s cousin Mordecai found out and asked Esther to speak to the king on behalf of the Jews about the law. Esther was hesitant, with good reason, because people who approached the king without an invite often ended up dead. Mordecai’s reply is the focus of this writing.
For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?”
Esther 4:14 (NASB)
I love his closing question! And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?
Jesus died for us so that we could be called the children of God. In the book of John it says:
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,
John 1:12 (NASB)
How wonderful Jesus is that he gave us the right to become children of God. And as if it were not enough, he calls us who have believed on his name Royal.
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
1 Peter 2:1-11 NASB
So who are you? God’s own possession, part of a chosen race that did not exist until Jesus brought us together through his blood. You are part of a royal priesthood. You have been called to proclaim the excellence Jesus!
What challenges do you have in your life today? I want to ask you the same question Mordecai asked Esther. Who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this? You are chosen you do not face the challenges you have by chance. You are royalty you have access to the King of Kings to speak for yourself and on the behalf of other people. You are called to proclaim the excellencies of Christ!
Tell sickness to be healed, tell the dead to live, tell the blind to see! Speak life with authority and power in your prayers every day. You were called for such a time as this!
Father, I am excited to proclaim your excellencies! Thank you, Jesus! Give me a hunger for the Bible like never before. I want to learn more so I can proclaim your excellence into every situation. Many are called few are chosen. Thank you for choosing me!
It’s not by chance you are where you are. The people in your life are not there by mistake. Become a lighting rod for heaven in the earth. Take up faith that is you pray God will move in the life of those around you. Stand if faith, be who you were created to be.
